背景：《Normal people》讲述了Marianee和Connell在爱尔兰小镇最后的学习时光到两人各自前往爱尔兰圣一三学院读书的生活。

Marianee:学霸，缺爱，孤独敏感又我行我素。

Connell:擅长学习，自卑敏感，缺乏主见。

Lorraine：男主妈妈，在女主家里做清洁工，有正义感。

Bob：男主高中同学。兼Grase。

Grase：女主大学男友。

              Did  you mean "like" as a friend

                                 or what?

                         No, not just friend.

（高中，Marianee因上课顶撞老师被留校。）

放学铃 脚步结束入

Connell:Hey,Marianne.

Marianee:（有些尴尬）I did actually get a detention.

Connell:Sorry.

Marianee:Technically,I requested it.

Connell:You were fairly harsh on Kerrigan the other day,as well.He’s actually pretty decent.I don’t know why you had to have such a go at him.

Marianee:I object to every thought or action...feeling of mine being policed like we’re in some authoritarian fantasy.

Connell:Well,It’s not that,though,is it?It’s just school.It’s the same for everybody.It’s not unique for you.

Marianee:You try to act like we’re friends.But you know you’re not that kind of person.

Connell:I’m not acting.Maybe I am that kind of person.

Marianee:Why are you talking to me,then?

Connell:yeah.

Marianee:What was Ms neary talking to you about after class?

Connell:Don’t know...getting out of class early for training or something.

Marianee:She must find training highly amusing,then.

Connell:Well.

Marianee:Dose she fancy you or something?

Connell:Why do you say that?

Marianee:（故意夸张）God,you’re not having an affair with her,are you?

Connell:Please.You think it’s funny joking about stuff like that,do you?People going at me like I fancy her.I...don’t fancy her.

Marianee:Well,maybe it’s because you blush a lot when she talks to you.

Connell:Yeah.

Marianee:But you know,you blush at everything.

Connell:Thanks.

Marianee:Guss you have one of those complexions.

Connell:Great.

Marianee:You’re blushing right now,actually.

Connell:Yeah,I’m aware.（尴尬）

Marianee:Sorry，I don’t want to get into a fight with you or anything.

Connell:We’re not fighting.

Marianee:（愣，语气转变）I know you probably hate me,but you are the only person who actually talks to me.

Connell:I never said that I hated you.

Marianee:Well,I like you.

Connell:...（愣住）Got to training,so..（转身离开）

Marianee:（微喊）Good luck at the match tomorrow.

Connell:Thanks.（害羞）

（男主去女主家接妈妈回家）

开门 脚步

Marianee:You played well today.

Connell:Thanks.That’s nice of you.

Marianee:（有些害羞）I can be nice.

Connell:I know you can.You know,the way you are in school,I don’t think you’re like that,really.

Marianee:What am I like,really?（向男主靠近,看向男主手里的书）You can borrow it,if you like.

Connell:I...I actually read it already.I don’t know why I picked it up.

Marianee:Any good?

Connell:Yeah,I like it.You-you’d like it,actually.It’s got a lot about feminism,and all that.

Marianee:Do your friends know you read so much?

Connell:Yeah,they wouldn’t really be interested in all that stuff.

Marianee:You mean they’re not interested in the world around them?

Connell:Not in the same way that we would be,but they have their own interests,I suppose.

Marianee:Right,like...bragging about who they’re having sex with.

Connell:Yeah.They can do a bit of that.I’m...not defending it.

Marianee:Dosen’t it bother you.

Connell:Most of it wouldn’t.And then they do some stuff that’s a bit over the line and that would bother me,obviously,but...they’re my friends at the end of the day.It’s different for you.

Marianee:Why is it different?

Connell:（停顿）You know,um...You were saying the other day that you like me...by the photocopier,you said it.

Marianee:yeah.

Connell:Did you mean “like” as...a friend, or what?

Marianee:（确定）No,not just as a friend.（男主抢话）

Connell:yeah,I thought that might be implied.I just..wasn’t sure.See,I’m...just a little confused about what I feel,I think...I’d be awkward in school if something happend with us.

Marianee:（停顿）No one would have to know...

（亲吻男主）

……

Marianee:（腼腆）That was nice.

Connell:What,what are you laughing for?

Marianee:Nothing.

Connell:Well,you’re acting like you’ve never been kissed before.

Marianee:（尴尬笑）I haven’t...

Connell:（笑）Don’t tell anybody in school about this,all right?

Marianee:Like I talked to anyone at school.
